The company was founded in 1970 in Napoli by de seafarer Gianluigi Aponte, who started operating between the Mediterranean and Somalia with his two first ships. After that MSC has experienced an amazing expansion through the purchase of more cargo ships, expanding his services to northern Europe, Africa and the Indian Ocean in 1977 and North America and Australia in the 80s. Moreover, in 1989 the company purchased the cruise ship operator Lauro Lines, that actually is known as MSC Cruises, the fourth largest cruise operator in the world and the second largest in Europe.

Nowadays MSC is the second-largest shipping line in the world and counts with more than 500 vessels and 47000 employees that work in 480 offices distributed by 155 countries

Last but not least, you must know that the company has de vessel MSC Oscar, that is the largest container ship in the world, with a length of 395.4 meters and the capacity to carry more than 14,000 containers. Its construction price was more than 180 million dollars.
